Welcome to issue #005 of Unicorn Parents. Each week, I share practical insights and reflections to help you build a profitable business without missing the magic at home. If you're serious about winning at work while raising great kids, you’ve come to the right place. This is a community built for ambitious parents who want both.
I used to think the best “gift” I could give my kids was a five-year sprint.
Work like a madman until my eldest turns 5.
Make it. Then be more available.
“A master game plan.”
Except life doesn’t actually wait for you to show up.
It’s the same trap as saying:
“I’ll give to charity once I’m rich.”
“I’ll work out once I’m less busy.”
“I’ll be present with my kids…later.”
Later never comes.
What kids want most isn’t a future promise. It’s you, right now. Undivided. Playful. Fully present.
And that doesn’t require expensive vacations. Mini-vacays are plenty enough.
A mini-vacay can be as simple as:
A daily walk around the neighborhood, just chatting
A weekly milkshake together at your favorite diner
A monthly trip to the shelter to serve side by side
These are breaks from the grind—for you and for them. Memories. Anchors. Treasures.
A wise man once told me:
Until they’re 7: just love them.
Until they’re 14: give them rules.
Until they’re 21: give them risks.
Mini-vacays fit right into that roadmap.
Play and presence when they’re little.
Shared traditions with boundaries as they grow.
New challenges together as they stretch.
So yes, have grand plans to succeed. Work hard. But don’t postpone the very thing you’re working for.
Weave mini-vacays into your system.
Your kids don’t need Disneyland.
They just need you. Today.
